We dropped Brandon off at the airport and then headed home. We had plans to spend the evening with the Ortiz's and go to Chick-Fil-A and then go swimming after. However, Wyatt woke up with a cold that morning and his nose just kept getting worse. He slept on the way home from the airport and then fell asleep on the way to Chick-Fil-A. I did not think anything of it earlier that day. I just figured he had a bad cold coming on because he sounded stuffy. As the day went on he got worse. Then after he fell asleep again on the way to Chick-Fil-A I felt bad that I had to wake him up. We went in and ate some dinner. Wyatt did not really care to eat. He ate 2 chicken nuggets and didn't want to play. He just sat by me and tried putting together the little activity things that he got in his meal. Then he almost fell asleep on the way home as well. So we got home and I put him to bed. He was super stuffy but could blow his nose a little bit. So I decided to put him in the shower and have that help clear him out a little bit which helped just a little. That night I got some cleaning done and worked on my blog and then went to bed after 11. Soon after going to bed Wyatt woke up crying. I gave him some medicine and then sent him back to bed. He then got up again at 12:30 crying and saying his tummy hurt him. I laid with him in bed for a little bit and then left. He then came in again at 1:30 bawling again. His nose was so stuffy by then. I figured he was so stuffed up because he was crying so much. He kept complaining about his tummy and I tried telling him there was nothing else I could do for him because I had already given him medicine. Then he cried again an hour later. He also woke up Emmett that time as well and I had to rock Emmett for a little bit. Then Emmett did not want to go back to sleep so he just screamed for a little while. Finally Wyatt went to sleep and Emmett was asleep and I finally got a few hours in. They were up pretty early that next morning too. By that morning Wyatt did not look good. His face looked all swollen. Yet again I just thought maybe it was because of all the crying had done that night. However, it did not go down and by the morning he could not blow his nose at all. I tried steaming him but it did not help. He was miserable!! I tried to get him to let me put saline drops in his nose to help but he wouldn't let me. I was so exhausted and so tired of hearing his crying especially since he wouldn't let me do anything to help him out. That day he slept a lot and just played on the couch watching movies.
He finally felt good enough to be outside a little bit and get some fresh air before Brandon got home. Then Brandon saw how swollen he looked. So we took it easy that day and steamed Wyatt and tried to get him to eat anything. He was not wanting to eat or drink anything. I had to basically force him to at least drink something. He also had a fever that went between 99-101. So he was just a mess.
That Saturday he was still not eating anything and barely drinking anything. We hung around the house and he slept for a lot of the day. Then we finally got him convinced to go and get a slurpee. So we went to 7/11 and to costco. While we were at Costco I was standing with the cart and looking at Wyatt who was sitting in the carts seat. He turned his head and I noticed a massive lump on the side of his neck! I couldn't believe it! He had a ball on the side of his neck. The other side of his neck was bad too. So I went and found where Brandon had gone to and showed him. We then decided that we needed to take him to the Pediatric Urgent Care just across the parking lot. He was in rough shape! When we got there we looked in his throat as well. His tonsils were incredibly swollen and all pussy! We thought for sure it was strep but, the strep test came back negative! The doc said it could be a bacterial infection or it could be mono. She said with how swollen his face was and everything else that was going on it could be mono. I was so surprised! How and when would he have gotten mono. I was super against that option since I thought there is no way he could get mono. The doc prescribed an antibiotic for him and sent us on our way. As soon as we got home Wyatt was complaining about his tummy again and saying it really hurt him. We got his first dose of antibiotics in him and he started crying even harder. Then within 20 minutes he threw up. So we steamed him again in the shower and then got him to bed. The next day I stayed home from church with Wyatt and Emmett. Wyatt was doing terribly. I got his medicine in him by giving it to him in a tiny bit of chocolate milk. However, that day he was throwing up and really not doing well at all. I just kept trying to push the liquids on him and he would throw up a little while later. He was doing so badly and just laying on the couch sleeping and in his room that when Brandon got home we decided he needed at priesthood blessing. He took a really long nap that day and I finally woke him up so he could get a blessing and then go back to bed. So Brandon texted our neighbor Jordan Humbert and he came over and they gave Wyatt a blessing. Then Wyatt went back to bed. He was just so sick! I had to carry him down the stairs and then back up to bed. We were hopeful that he would feel better the next morning after getting a full day of antibiotics in his system.
He looked only slightly better and his tonsils looked worse. Every time he was sleeping and all relaxed it worried me. The night before Wyatt was asleep on the couch and Brandon and I were sitting there just listening to his breathing and looking at each other all worried. I have never been worried about my kids as much as I was about little Wyatt. I was worried that his tonsils were going to completely close up on him. I didn't know what else we could do for him. It was so sad watching him suffer through this sickness! So needless to say Monday we did not leave the house. We watched a lot of T.V and Wyatt slept a lot.
Emmett and I were able to get out of the house that Monday evening for just a little bit to go to the store and grab a few things.
This picture was taken that Monday night. The last time he had actually eaten something was Thursday afternoon. The rest of that day got worse and he slowly didn't want to eat anything after that. So to go from Thursday evening to Monday without eating and barely drinking anything and throwing up all Sunday he looked like a little skeleton!! It broke my heart to see him look so sickly!!! I still can't believe how much he lost in 4 1/2 days. My poor sweet little Wyatt!!
Look at that throat of his!! Seriously the sickest we have ever had any of our kids. Tuesday was still really bad. His fever finally ended Tuesday and I do believe he actually asked for a smoothie and a milkshake although he didn't drink much of either. It was more than he had gotten in the last 4 days so I was happy with whatever he would put into his body!
Wednesday was my Birthday and I figured I would be stuck at home yet again that day. However, Wyatt was starting to feel a little better. He actually wanted a little bit of cereal and wanted a protein drink. Then when I mentioned going to costco to get some ice cream he got all excited and we got him dressed to go. It was the most excited and happy I had seen him since Thursday. So I was all for going and getting him some ice cream. By the time we got there the kids wanted pizza and even Wyatt wanted some pizza. So we ate pizza and Brandon came to enjoy Costco with us. It was a nice Birthday surprise and I was so glad that Wyatt was feeling well enough to eat some pizza and some ice cream. This was the first happy face we had seen in days.. well besides the one he gave me that morning when I mentioned ice cream.
This is what Wyatt wanted to eat when he finally wanted to eat something. haha
This was just how the rash looked in the morning. It got way worse as the day went on!
Look at his ears... it was getting so puffy!!!
We finally started to feel like we were making head way and that he was going to be all better soon. Then that Saturday morning when I came downstairs to say good morning to the boys I was met with an unwelcome surprise. Wyatt had a rash all over his body! I couldn't believe it!! I thought we were getting past all the craziness of this sickness and then he had a full body rash. So I called his pediatric doctors office and got an appointment that morning. So we headed out and decided to stop by kohls on the way to the doctors office to look for some clothes for Ethan. However, while we were there Wyatt's rash was looking worse! Once again I was worried about our little Wyatt. His ears were hugely swollen and his cheeks were looking swollen and his rash was just getting worse. So we left Kohls and headed to the doctors hoping that we could just get in a little earlier if we arrived earlier. Ya that did not happen and we waited at the doctors office for a while before going back. The doctor took one look at him and said it was an allergic reaction to penicillin. So now we think he is allergic to penicillin. Now I was worried about not taking an antibiotic and having his sickness come back again full strength. His tonsils had finally started to go down and he was eating a little bit so I didn't want to sickness to rebound. I was worried but the doctor said that she didn't think that the antibiotics were doing anything anyways. She also then mentioned mono. There was that word again! I just kept thinking "no way!". However, the more I thought about it the more I realized that it totally could have been mono. The antibiotics should have helped him and he should have not had a fever after the second day of the medicine in his body. So since it really didn't seem to be helping him all that much the sickness must have hit its peak on Sunday and then started to slowly get better after that. So we were told to stop the medicine and to get him some Benadryl. So we gave him Benadryl for the next 2 days until his rash went away. Of course the doctor mentions before we leave to keep an eye on him and if his swelling gets any worse or he starts swelling in his lips or mouth or face more then we needed to take him to the ER. GREAT!!! That is exactly what I wanted to hear when I was already so worried about it. There were so many times I wanted to cry and had to hold back my tears because I was so worried about him. With never having a sickness this bad with any of our boys this was not a fun experience. I had my times of crying in prayer needing some comfort so that I didn't worry about him when he was sleeping. It was not fun at all!! Thankfully the Benadryl started to help and within a couple of days he was looking a lot better. For the next 2 weeks he was much better but there were still times where he acted not himself. He would be more whiny and tired and just wanted to sit and watch movies. We even went to the pool and he played for just a little while and then just sat in the chairs and wanted to eat snacks. He would also get really cold when we were out at a restaurant which normally does not happen. We were at Texas Roadhouse and he started shivering and covering his legs with his shirt and then finally cuddled up to Brandon. The more I thought about his sickness the more I thought that he probably did have mono. It really did last for a long time. The worse part of the sickness lasted probably a week and a half or 2 weeks and then he just wasn't completely himself for another couple of weeks. Out of all the sicknesses we have had our kids go through and all the fevers this one took the cake! I hope none of our kids are ever that sick again!! I am just so thankful that he is past that terrible part and is pretty much all better. His lymph nodes are still a little swollen but not terribly.
