Ethan

This handsome boy is growing up just way too fast!! I still can't believe he is in 1st grade. He absolutely loves school. He always gets home and says that school was "Awesome". Homework is a fight and a half. Every day he gets home and I tell him that he needs to do his homework and every day he rolls is eyes and gets all mad at me and says he doesn't want to do his homework. I totally understand him not wanting to do it right when he gets home but I have learned the hard way that it does not make it any easier to get him to work on his homework if I wait. So I try to get him to do his homework as soon as he gets home while he has his snack. That way he can just play the rest of the night. It is crazy how fast the evening goes with him not getting home until 3:30. I feel like there is no time to just enjoy having him home and having fun with him. Between getting homework done and eating dinner he gets a little bit of time to play and then its time to get ready for bed. We rarely get time to sit down and have him read. They also have spelling tests each week and we have practiced maybe twice in the month or so that he has been having spelling tests. It has just been super hard to get him to want to take the time to practice. Other than those struggles he really enjoys math and he is really good at it. He is still getting extra help with reading with the literacy teacher Mrs. Hewitt who he absolutely loves. Just the last week he has been doing so much better with his reading. He is getting more excited when he actually gets the words right and he is getting so much better with the sight words. It is exciting to see how much better he is getting. Other than the learning he is doing these days he is also such a good little boy. He can be so feisty and then so sweet. He has told us of times when his teacher tripped and spilt markers all over and he was the only one to get up and help pick up the markers for her. Or one time when someone at school couldn't find a seat at lunch and he let her sit by him. He also said that he has let other kids play frisby when they are not playing with anyone else. He gets so excited to tell us when he has done something nice and we are so proud of him for being kind to others. This year has also been really hard with Ethan because he has not been getting enough sleep. Even though it stays dark until 7:30 now, he and Wyatt will still wake up before 7 some days and then they are so grumpy! So if he starts sleeping more than maybe we will get past the grumpy phase too! haha He really is a good boy and when he has eaten enough and slept enough he can be so nice to his brothers and to others. There are times when he is just mean and hitting and pushing his brothers and then other times when he brings frozen grapes to Wyatt because he is getting some and thinks Wyatt would like some too. Another thing that has been interesting this year with Ethan being in full day school is that he is hearing bad words at school. We have had to tell him that if he hears something at school that he never hears us say that it is probably a bad word and to ask his teacher and or us if it is a bad word before he starts using it. We have had to use tobasco on his tounge one time because he said the Lords name in vain not meaning to too many times. It is hard going through all of this for the first time. It is so easy to just react when he does something that he is not supposed to just because we don't know how to handle it. Poor kid takes the brunt of everything because he is the first born. Oh ya, another thing that Ethan has started to do is burping really loud on purpose. He thinks it is so funny to tell his dad that he has a secret and then burp in his face. I guess its all part of him being a little boy but we are trying to stop him from doing that because it is just gross! We sure do love Ethan though and couldn't imagine life without him.

Fun life from November 12-19th

November was fun filled. We had lots of time out in the warm sunshine, a pie party and visiting family in Arkansas for Thanksgiving. Our friends throw and annual pie night around thanksgiving where we just go and eat a bunch of pie. Brandon mentioned making a real cheesecake. So I looked up some on pinterest and found a recipe to try. It didn't look the best when it was done but man did it taste yummy!
My first ever cheesecake!! It was delicious!!

I can't get enough of these cute boys in my life!!!

Brandon put up our Christmas lights and the boys wanted to help. The boys thought it was super cool to go up the big ladder and talk to daddy.

So this basketball hoop was supposed to be a Christmas present. However, while the boys were out changing the oil with their dad Ethan saw it up on the rafters. So then when Brandon was putting the lights up Ethan told him that he should get down the basketball hoop and put it up. Brandon tried to play it off like it was just a pole but Ethan is too smart for that and so that Christmas present was blown. So we got it down and let the boys play with it. We will have to be sneakier next time when we are trying to hide stuff!

That evening we headed to the pie party before heading out on our fun date night that night! We ate way too much pie and Emmett got clobbered a couple of times by the older kids but it was still fun!

Then Brandon and I went on a group date to Top Golf. It is like bowling but golfing. It was one of our friends birthday parties that they were having. It was a lot of fun hanging out with all of these good people!

Plus we always like to smack a few balls!

Brandon did a good job on our lights! This was before we added a few other lights to the madness! :-)

Emmett had his first experience with a burn. I took Wyatt over to a friends house and was talking with the mom while Emmett ran around and played too. Then all of a sudden Emmett started crying and running holding his hand. Wyatt's friend had turned on their fireplace and I didn't even think twice about it because Emmett had never tried to touch ours at home. This time he touched it and burnt his little hand. He was so sad!!! I felt so bad that I had not been watching him. I ran a little cold water on his hand for a second and then we gave him a cookie and he seemed ok. Then we left and he was super tired and then his hand really started to bother him. He screamed the whole way home. So I put a white vinegar soaked paper towel on his hand and tried to keep it on his hand for a few minutes. Then after that I found some burn cream in our first aid kit and put some of that on him. Then I tried to wrap his hand up so the cream would stay on his hand. He did not like his hand being wrapped. He would scream the whole time and pull his hand away. I finally managed to get it wrapped up and then tried to put him down for a nap and he just cried and cried. So I finally just let him lay on the couch with his blanket and binkie and watch some cartoons for a little bit. He was so tired and just so sad! Finally I unwrapped his hand and gave him some tylenol and he took a nap. After his nap his hand was all better and he was back to normal! So whatever I did worked on his little burn. I was so happy that his hand looked completely better after his nap. It wasn't a terrible burn but it was a burn non the less and his hand was red before and then after his nap it was normal again. Thank goodness!! Tell you what he doesn't even get near our fireplace when it is on now! So that is the only good thing about the whole situation I guess!

Look who showed up to conduct our Family Home Evening!! We are such a lucky family to have Spider Man come to FHE! :-)

Man we are such nice parents getting the boys ice cream after eating some delicious Chick Fil A and letting them play! I sure hope they realize how good they have it! ;-) haha

Emmett loves to push our tupperware around the kitchen floor.

The weather was supposed to be changing drastically within a day. So Wyatt and I played tennis outside while Emmett was napping. Then once Emmett woke up from his nap I decided to just let him eat his lunch outside while we played.

This is a lovely foot print in our butter. Emmett got on the table while we were busy and stepped on the butter. haha

The last time at the park before the weather was supposed to change.

82 degrees when we left the park and got home. The next morning.... snow!!!! I still can't believe how drastic that temperature change was!

This was Emmetts first time having cereal with milk at the table like a big boy. He did a really good job using the spoon. He was so excited to be at the big boy table and eating cereal like his brothers. He ate quite a bit of it too. Too bad the next day he didn't do as well and kept getting down from the table. haha It was too good to be true!

What a cute little boy!! I can't get enough of him!!

Wyatt was so excited that it was snowing!

Playing in the first snow of the season!

It was too cold still to actually build a snowman so I decided to help the boys make a laying down snowman! haha They thought it was pretty cool!

What a pretty tree!

Lastly, looks like we have an artist in the family! haha Emmett decided that he wanted to paint my protein drink on the table with a straw. haha

Making banana bread and Emmett really wanted to help. So I let him put some ingredients in and he was pretty excited!

Brandon did such a good job on our lights!

Emmett likes to take pictures with his Daddy. haha It is so funny when they take pictures together! :-)
