Staycation time!

Since we are not going anywhere this summer we decided it would be fun to go down to Colorado Springs and go to the zoo. We had heard that the zoo in Colorado Springs was amazing, so we figured it would be fun to check it out. So we headed down on Thursday June 9th. It took us close to 3 hours to get to Colorado Springs and Emmett was so done by the time we got there. It didn't help that he was hungry. So we arrived in town around dinner time and everyone was hungry. Emmett had been screaming and crying for a while and we were ready to get out of the car. So we decided to just eat at On the Border. It was a very bad decision. Ethan had said that he wanted to have a quesadilla and Wyatt wanted chicken nuggets. So we decided that On the Border would hit both of those for the boys and Emmett would eat a quesadilla. Well..... both Ethan and Wyatt didn't even get what they had said they wanted and Brandon and I shared a California Burrito. It sounded so yummy and it was the worst mistake. The worst part was that there was a hu hot just across the street and that would have been ten times better. After eating our ridiculously small and gross burrito and trying to keep Emmett happy (not working) we headed out. Emmett didn't really eat any dinner and the boys ate descent. As we left both Brandon and I agreed that we would have been better off eating at McDonalds than eating at On the Border. That just goes to show you how bad it was. haha Oh well... we seem to have bad luck when it comes to food when we go on trips like this. haha

After dinner we arrived at our hotel. It was really small and run down. I was a little worried when we pulled up to it. My worries came true when we walked inside to our room. It was smelly and not very nice at all. Brandon luckily got our room changed so it didnt stink as bad but nothing else about it was very nice. It was probably the most ghetto hotel we have stayed at. haha I am not sure if the sheets were even really cleaned. I got in the bathroom and the handle on the toilet was chipped off and the toilet paper roll was almost completely gone (they still folded the toilet paper to make it look nice... ) haha. It was crazy!!

The grungy hotel room didn't phase the boys. They were so excited to go swimming. They were also excited about the tub in the hotel room! haha Such silly kids! haha

Our experience at the hot tub was just as exciting! First we got into the pool area and it was pretty old and worn down. Then the pool was freezing cold so we really only wanted to be in the hot tub. After being in for a few minutes an older couple came in and we had fun talking with them for a little bit. Until..... some guy (late 20's) came in and was totally drunk. He kept talking to us about who knows what. Ethan decided to jump into the cold pool a couple of times and the drunk guy decided it would be a good idea to show Ethan how to really do a cannon ball. Ethan was still in the pool and the guy jumps in and Ethan in the corner of the pool has to keep his head above all the waves. That was not cool in my book. Then the guy decided to tell Wyatt to splash him in the hot tub. So Wyatt splashed the guy a couple of times and the guy responded by telling him that that was not splashing. So he proceeded to show Wyatt how to really splash someone and started to splash the heck out of Wyatt. I was not very happy about that one either. It he had done one more thing to bother my kids I would have told him to leave because he was ruining our family time. The older couple left pretty quickly after the guy came and I looked at the older lady and motioned to her that the guy was totally drunk. She laughed a little and nodded and they left. After a little bit more time we couldn't take it anymore and decided to leave as well.

The air conditioning was super loud. By 1 or 2 in the morning Brandon finally just turned it off because it was so noisy! Luckily everyone else slept pretty good for the most part. Emmett woke up twice but other than that it went ok. That morning the boys were up super early. Emmett started crying at just before 6 and wanted a bottle. Wyatt then woke up because of his crying and then saw that the sun was out and so he was done sleeping. Soon after that Ethan woke up. So we had an early start to the full day ahead of us.

At Breakfast the kids were having a blast eating cereal and waffles. Then Wyatt decided he wanted an apple. He also wanted the skin off. I told him that I didn't have a knife to cut the skin off and a different older couple chimed in saying that they had a knife that we could use. So the old man pulled out a good sized pocket knife out of his pocket and handed it to Brandon. The lady mentioned that he always has it on him and that they use it mostly to trim sticks when they are in the mountains with their grandsons. It was pretty funny that they pulled out this knife for Brandon to use. So our trip had been pretty eventful so far and we were then ready to head to the zoo and have some more adventures! :-)

The Cheyenne Mountain Zoo was actually pretty cool. We were able to feed the giraffes, birds and an elephant. It was pretty hot but we got a souvenir cup and got refills throughout the day. The boys had fun seeing all the animals and Emmett seemed to have fun looking at all of them too. Emmett still takes 2 naps each day and yet he did not get any nap. He won't fall asleep in the stroller so he just fought sleep the whole time. We were done by 2 and super ready to go home. Ethan was throwing major tantrums by 2, Wyatt was tired of walking and Emmett could barely keep his eyes open and yet wouldn't fall asleep. So our drive home was pretty quiet for a while. haha

The boys were so excited to feed an elephant!

We saw some sloths and the boys decided to be sloths and do that they were doing. haha

The boys were so excited to get their faces painted!! Ethan was a cheetah and Wyatt was a lion!

Ethan even pet a snake. Wyatt did not want anything to do with the snake but Ethan just went for it. He kept petting the snake wrong and the lady had to calm the snake down before letting him try again. haha

The boys decided they wanted to ride the carousel instead of getting ice cream. So I rode with them and then.....

Brandon and I got some ice cream!!
The boys were pretty mad that I was getting ice cream when I got to ride the carousel too. We had to explain that I had to go on because they were little and I had to make sure they didn't fall off. Ethan had the hardest time with the fact that I was getting ice cream after getting to ride the ride as well. Which is also when we realized that it was about time to leave. haha

This was as close as Emmett got to falling asleep!! Poor little buddy was so tired!! I tried to lay him down so he could fall asleep and he just got mad and started crying. haha

Emmett has started to say "cheese" when we say it when taking pictures. He doesn't do it all the time but he does sometimes and when he does it is super cute!

Our family picture to end the trip. This is what happens when kids get up too early and walk in the heat all day. Yay for grumpy tantrum throwing family pictures! haha

What a fun day at the zoo!!! The boys were happy to be out of the sun and drinking some water!

think Emmett was happy to be laying back in his car seat. Maybe he knew he could finally fall asleep! haha

Ethan must have been super tired to fall asleep like this in the car! haha

Wyatt loves umbrellas right now. He thinks that they are super cool. While on the road back home he found the umbrella in the car and when I looked back this is what I saw. haha He looks so angry... but, I think it was just that he was super tired! haha

When we got home there was the Timnath BBQ going on at our park. So we decided to head over and get some free food and hang for a little bit.

We didn't stay very long because we had just had a super full day and we were all tired and needed to get cleaned up and go to bed. But we were able to eat some yummy free food and the kids got to play in the bounce house for just a bit. It was a fun and super full day!!
